Food

Notes from a hungry student:

Meals are served every day in hall. Cash is not accepted in hall. To pay for meals, you need to pay by Bod card. To put money on your card, you can either pay with cash in the College Office or you can visit www.upay.co.uk to pay with a credit/debit card. However, please note that if you would like to pay by card on the upay.co.uk website, you need to request an institution number (the St. Hugh's ID number) from the College Office to register your online account.

Hall times are:

Monday - Friday:
Breakfast: 8:00 - 10:00
Lunch: 12:30 - 13:30
Dinner: 18:15 - 19:15

Saturday/Sunday Brunches:  10:30 - 13:30

A word on Formal Halls:

Dress code for all Formal Halls is 'formal' (no surprise there!) aka 'lounge suits'. This means at least trousers, shirt, and a tie for the guys, and a dress or formal trousers/skirts for the girls. Importantly, one does NOT need to wear ones gown to formal (although supposedly if one were so inclined they may do so).

For Black Tie dinners, the dress code is (as you may have guessed) black tie for gents, and a (more?) formal dress for the ladies. However, if you don't have all of the necessary garb, just scrub yourself up as smart as you can and things will probably be fine.

There are pre-drinks (red and white wine) in the MCR from 6:30, before we head over en masse to sample the delights of the Hugh's kitchens.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. A note on etiquette: the bread to the left is yours, and the wine glasses to your right. Use the cutlery on the outside of the plate first and work inwards! (Easy)

Online Ticketing for Formal Halls:

St Hugh's Formal Hall tickets are sold online on the UPay.co.uk website, where you also top up your card to eat regular meals in Hall.

If you do not use the site to top up your Bod card for meals in college, you will need to set up an account on the site. This does not involve a charge.

Once you have set up an account, log onto the St Hugh's page and click on bookings. This will take you to a mock-up bookings page for a Formal Hall. As usual, you may book two tickets only per Bod card specifying if you or your guest need a vegetarian or special diet meal.

If you select special diet, Nicholas French, our Catering Manager, will require an email for details of the meal: catering.manager@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk.

When you get to the Pay and Confirm page, you can select to be put on the event guest list to be viewed by fellow MCR diners who log onto the page. As soon as you click pay, an email will be sent to you confirming your booking details.

On arrival at the dining hall on the Formal Hall evening, please have your Bod card ready to be ticked off the list.

If you buy a ticket off someone else, if you're bringing a non-Hughsian guest, or if you sell your ticket to someone, you need to send a short email to catering.manager@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk to inform Nicholas French of the change.

Ex: I, (your name) am [bringing a guest/selling my ticket/buying a ticket from]... (person's name).

As long as the Catering Staff know whose name to look for in place of the name on the list...
